Always
Years ago, I heard on the radio someone share the saying that, “I knew I married Miss Right, but I didn’t know her first name was Always.” I remember thinking how applicable that was to my situation. As time has passed, I have realized that she is not ALWAYS right, but there are stretches of time that certainly cause me to think that my wife Nicole can never be wrong. There are times when I could swear that I am right and she is wrong, but the eventual truth seems to swing to her side much more often than it does mine. One day I told her something like, “somewhere in eternity maybe I’ll start believing you before I’m proved wrong.” That’s when it struck me that this could be the basis for a good song.

Just didn't know her first name...
The idea began as a silly song, but as it progressed, I knew there was a serious side that also needed to be expressed… after all, I was speaking of my eternal companion here. I loved the lyrical and musical journey I took while creating this song and the final destination surprised and delighted me. I hope it does the same for you. Meanwhile, I will continue learning my lesson as Always Right (aka Nicole Squires) and I forge ahead, hand in hand, down life’s often unpredictable path.

Always
By Michael D. Squires

We walk life’s path hand in hand
And face tough decisions along the way.
But, trusting sound logic, I make my own choices
And don’t always listen to what she might say

So in spite of her objections, I go my own direction
‘Til some point down the road I have to hit my brakes.
Maybe somewhere in eternity I’ll heed her counsel
Then maybe I’ll stop making so many mistakes

I thank heaven for this woman I married
And with her I’ll spend all of my days.
So many times I think I am right and
She’ll show me my mistakes and I’m amazed.
Y’see I knew I found Miss Right;
(I) just didn’t know her first name was Always.

But if you think I’m never right, you’re wrong;
The proof is still here with me by my side.
‘Cause I know I made at least one correct decision
The day I asked her to be my bride.

I thank heaven for this woman I married
And with her I’ll spend all of my days.
So many times I think I am right and
She’ll show me my mistakes and I’m amazed.
Y’see I knew I found Miss Right;
(I) just didn’t know her first name was Always.

Sometimes she let’s me think I’m right
But then I find out she’s fakin’.
Then there was the time she thought she was wrong,
But it turns out she was just mistaken.

I thank heaven for this woman I married
And with her I’ll spend all my days.
She has believed in me from the very beginning,
And, in spite of my weaknesses, I hope she stays
Ya see I knew I found Miss Right;
I just didn’t know her first name was Always.

I don’t know why she believes in me
But I hope she’s right… as Always.

…so please stay with me, Always
