GRANDPA'S PEACE

My father passed away in 2017.  He left a powerful example of how life should be faced and lived, and I am grateful.  He has left a great righteous posterity.  It is difficult to not have him here with us.

Shortly after his passing, a granddaughter (my niece) wrote some words in poetry form that were quite touching.  In those words, she attempted to visualize part of what may have happened as he passed through the veil to the other side, and had a meeting with our Savior.  The words are from his perspective – they are powerful words of hope and inspiration.  I feel that they may be very close to what could have taken place.

I felt a need to use those words in the creation of a new song.  I had to take some liberties to make it fit the music, but I feel like I stayed true to the intent in her words.  One of my father’s favorite hymns was “Guide Me to Thee” (Hymn number 101 in the current hymnbook).  I started with that and worked it in as sort of a theme in the song.  As we look back at what he taught us in his life, I am grateful that he truly did guide us to our Savior.

"Our Savior is here, and eager to bring you relief."
"When we reunite, what praises we'll sing!"
Grandpa’s Peace

Jesus my Savior true, guide me to Thee

I hear His voice; I know His face;
I fall to my knees; He raises me
To a warm embrace

I feel the prints; in our clasped hands;
My heart is full; I feel His love
And I know He understands.

There’s no more fear - replaced by calm.
My joy is expanding, my praise for Him
Is forever strong.

I made it home; I am now free
Because my Savior performed His work
And now He remembers me.

My loved ones who remain, I share in your pain.
I miss you, but I know that we can be together again.

My family be strong; be at peace;
Our Savior is here, and eager to
Bring you relief.

When we reunite, what praises we’ll sing!
When you hear His voice, and see His face;
When you fall to your knees, and feel His embrace,
You’ll know that He gave us…
Everything.
Everything.

Jesus my Savior true
Guide me to Thee.
To Thee
