GRAND

Some time after the birth of our first grandchild, I had thoughts of creating a song attempting to express the joy that we felt about it.  Nothing happened for a while.  As he grew, and we had opportunities to interact, I knew he had great potential.  Then a granddaughter arrived and the same feelings.  In my efforts to create something worthy of these special spirits that had joined our posterity, the thought came to me that they truly are grand.  I began writing and the words turned to the fact that the experience of being grandparents is grand.  We saw some of the struggles in our kids and it brought back memories of how it felt when we were in their shoes, starting a new family.  It’s all part of a bigger plan, which ends with eternal happiness if we do it right.  I am so grateful for this knowledge.  I hope these messages come through clearly with this song - and just maybe it may be an inspiration for my posterity as they face their own challenges after I'm gone.

It's Grand!
"It's grand to be a part of this eternal band..."
Grand

I’m in that stage of life for which
Every parent secretly yearns,
When the kids start families of their own
And they begin to learn
That their parents knew more than they thought;
Now memories return.
I’m reminded how it felt when we were
young and took our turn.
Now I’m the father of a dad,
And …

It’s grand!         It’s grand!
It’s grand, to be the leader of this band.
I see the wisdom in the plan, I’m not just a father,
I’m a grand.

But I’m not the only one whose hair
Is turning shades of gray.
She’s always been beside me
And now she loves in the Grandma way.
It’s a joy to have these grandkids
And in gratitude we pray
That His greatest blessings will be theirs
And they can find their way.
We look forward to a coming day
When there are no empty chairs,
And together we will sing…

It’s grand!           It’s grand!
It’s grand to be a part, of this eternal band.
We see the wisdom in His plan, and give honor to the Father,
It’s grand.

It’s grand!           It’s grand!
It’s grand to be a part, of this eternal band.
We see the wisdom in His plan, and give honor to the Father,
It’s grand.

I’m in that stage of life for which
Every parent secretly yearns,
And it’s grand!
