Go In Peace
My mother shared with me a piece of paper with her hand-writing on it. She is a talented writer and, for some reason, she thought I might be able to do something musical with it. There really weren’t very many words on that paper, but what it lacked in volume, it made up for in feeling. They stem from the story from the New Testament of the woman who was healed by simply touching the hem of the Savior’s robe. This was probably more than twenty years ago, and I wish that I could remember how the music came to be. I remember sitting down at the piano with the paper, but I can not remember working out melody or chords. It has been so long now that it seems like this song has always been with me – and maybe it has. It is really very simple and repetitive music, but the message of the lyrics makes the music speak. It speaks of our dependency on our Savior, His power to make things right, and His tender love for us. The words belong to my mother, but they speak to and from my heart every time I play this song. I hope they do the same for you.

Go In Peace
Lyrics by JoAnn Squires, Music by Michael D. Squires
I’ve walked the path of pain, the road of sorrow I’ve climbed the rugged mountain of repentance To free my soul from heartache and from sin I’ve felt the sting of doubt, my testimony shaken. I’ve reached with fading hope to touch the iron rod again. He gave his life for me, his love will never cease. Thy faith hath made thee whole, Go in peace, go in peace. (Paraphrased from Luke 8:43-48) And a woman which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him and touched the border of his garment and immediately she was healed. And Jesus said, somebody hath touched me, for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. My struggles are not vain, he knows my needs His peace will ease the pain, my faith increase. With faith I can endure, my faith will make me whole I’ll touch his hem and hear, go in peace. He gave his life for me, his love will never cease. Thy faith hath made thee whole, Go in peace, go in peace.
